Tara is living in 18November, over and over again.
She goes to Paris as a routine trip to acquire some books and visit a friend, but wakes up the next morning and it’s still the eighteenth of November.
Sounds are how she marks her days. Once she realized she’s living in the same day she decides to go back home to her husband and ends up hiding in the guest room. After all, explaining to him, over and over, that she’s had over a hundred of the same day, becomes untenable.
Any time loop book will get my attention, and this one was well presented. The same information is given – the same elements to her day – and done in a way that both feels repetitious as Tara feels it and fresh because the perspective on the information is slightly different.
The novel doesn’t tie things up in the end. There’s a cliffhanger ending which I didn’t really like, but there are also six more volumes in the series to read, should I chose to do so.
I found Tara’s musings interesting, the novel is presented as journal entries mostly, but was frustrated by a few things like, why didn’t she explore more? Why stay confined to a room? Why go back home after only one or two days in Paris that repeat? But I guess that’s not what the character would do.
While the novel was interesting, it was frustrating enough that I may not read the other volumes. I just got too annoyed that Tara sat around and waited instead of deciding to just live the day.
